Taught by ISU History Professor Dr. Terry Clark, this threesession course explores powerful stories of courage within African American history. Session one highlights Ruby Bridges, the young girl who bravely integrated a New Orleans elementary school during the civil rights era. Session two focuses on the 6888th Central Postal Battalion—African American women soldiers who cleared a massive mail backlog for WWII troops overseas. The final session examines how James Brown’s concert in Boston helped prevent unrest following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Each session offers a compelling look at resilience, service, and leadership in pivotal moments.
