This discussion-based course traces the evolution of economic ideas through a chronological exploration of key figures and movements. Beginning with Adam Smith and the Classical Economists, the course examines major developments, including the scientific and ideological shifts of the late 19th century, the transformative influence of Keynes, and the revival of classically liberal ideas known as a “neoliberal revival”. No prior background in economics is necessary as this course is designed for those interested in the foundations of modern economics. While emphasizing intellectual history and critical discussion, participants will gain understanding of the economic challenges facing the United States today.
